Heating today, motors tomorrow: Murad S. never gets bored at his job as an industrial mechanics engineer. He loves the variety his work provides and is happy to lend a hand wherever he’s needed.

A love for technology, a passion for action

A career with extensive freedoms, where no one day is the same as the next—for Murad S., this variety is what makes his job as an industrial mechanics engineer so much fun.

What does your job at Ludwig Schokolade entail?

Every week is different for me. My colleagues and I primarily focus on making sure our production systems are running smoothly. Are the water supply, air pressure, and heating set properly? Is the motor making weird noises? If there’s an issue, I call in the system supervisor, and I try to get to the root of what the problem might be. Other days, I repair or service the equipment in our buildings, or we set up a new system. Once, I even painted a wall, and I laid temporary supply lines in the courtyard for our company’s in-house Oktoberfest.

How is your work structured?

We work in a three-shift system, alternating weekly between an early, afternoon, and night shift. Personally, I’m happy with the rhythm of these shifts; I’ve gotten used to it. Every shift comprises a team of three to four people. I really like the fact that highly experienced colleagues are always on a team with younger employees, and everyone specializes in something different. That way, we have a chance to learn from each other. For my part, I didn’t start my traineeship in Fraulautern to become an industrial mechanics engineer until 2017; I’ve been a permanent employee since 2021.

“I love the fact that everyone on our team is so different. That way, we have a chance to learn from each other.”

How did you learn about the traineeship? Were you already familiar with Ludwig Schokolade at that point?

Of course! If you know Schogetten, you know Ludwig Schokolade. I’ve always been interested in technology; I’ve repaired a lot of cell phones, for instance. So I had been considering a number of careers in metalworking, but as an industrial mechanics engineer, I get to do it all: milling, lathing, welding. That’s what won me over in the end, and I’ve never regretted my decision.

What do you like most about Ludwig Schokolade?

If you’re the sort of person who loves pitching in, and if you’re looking for variety in your job, you’ll probably like it here! My favorite thing is when I’m able to use my expertise to solve a problem with the system for my colleagues. I enjoy helping others. But you also need to be able to keep your cool and work well under pressure. Chocolate calms the nerves, so I would recommend having a Nusspli wafer bar in these situations. It’s one of my favorites.
